Science at Education Always

Science at the Primary level (Basic 4 to Basic 6) introduces young Ghanaian learners to the natural world around them through observation, questioning, and simple investigations. It builds curiosity and lays the foundation for the more advanced Integrated Science course at JHS. At Education Always, our Primary Science content follows the NaCCA curriculum and uses familiar Ghanaian contexts to make science real and relatable.

Topics in Primary Science (Basic 4 to Basic 6)

Life Science

  • Living and non-living things: characteristics of living things
  • Plants: parts of a plant, their functions, and how plants make food
  • Animals: classification of animals, habitats, and adaptations
  • The human body: organs and their functions
  • Food and nutrition: balanced diet, food groups, and keeping healthy
  • Health and disease: common diseases in Ghana, hygiene, and prevention

Physical Science

  • Matter: solids, liquids, and gases and their properties
  • Changes in matter: melting, freezing, evaporation, and condensation
  • Forces: push, pull, gravity, and friction
  • Energy: forms of energy including heat, light, and sound
  • Light: reflection, shadows, and the colour spectrum
  • Sound: how it is produced and how it travels
  • Electricity: simple circuits, conductors, and insulators
  • Magnets: poles, attraction, repulsion, and uses of magnets

Earth and Environmental Science

  • The Earth: soil, rocks, and minerals
  • Weather and seasons in Ghana
  • Water: the water cycle, sources of water, and water conservation
  • The solar system: the Sun, Moon, Earth, and other planets
  • Environmental pollution: types, causes, and how to prevent it
  • Natural resources in Ghana and how to use them responsibly

How Primary Science is Taught

Primary Science should be hands-on and investigative. Students should observe, touch, and experiment wherever possible. Doing simple experiments at home, like growing a plant from a seed, filtering dirty water, or watching ice melt, brings science lessons to life.
