Senior High School (SHS) Resources

Senior High School in Ghana runs from SHS 1 to SHS 3. After JHS, students are placed into SHS programmes based on their BECE results. The SHS curriculum is built around a combination of core subjects that every student takes and elective subjects chosen based on the student’s programme of study.

At Education Always, we provide SHS content that supports classroom learning and prepares students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

SHS Programmes and Elective Subjects

SHS students in Ghana choose one of several programmes. Common programmes include:

  • General Arts – English, French or Ghanaian Language, History, Government, Economics, Geography, Literature
  • General Science – Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Elective Mathematics
  • Business – Business Management, Accounting, Economics, Elective Mathematics or Cost Accounting
  • Visual Arts – Picture Making, Graphic Design, Ceramics, Sculpture, Textiles, Leatherwork
  • Home Economics – Food and Nutrition, Management in Living, General Knowledge in Art
  • Agricultural Science – General Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Crop Husbandry and Horticulture
  • Technical – Technical Drawing, Auto Mechanics, Building Construction, Electrical Installation

Core Subjects (All SHS Students)

Regardless of programme, every SHS student studies these core subjects at WASSCE:

  • English Language
  • Core Mathematics
  • Integrated Science
  • Social Studies

WASSCE Preparation

The WASSCE is written at the end of SHS 3. It is a regional examination conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and is recognized across West Africa. Our WASSCE preparation resources include topic-by-topic revision notes, original practice questions, essay guides, and examination strategies.
