Essay Questions: Marking Guide for Teachers and Parents
- Resistor: limits current (1). Capacitor: stores charge (1). Inductor: stores energy in a magnetic field and resists sudden changes in current (1). Diode: allows current in one direction only (1). LED: a diode that gives out light (1).
- Resistance: ohm (Ω) (2). Capacitance: farad (F) (2). Inductance: henry (H) (2).
- Any three: uses less electricity, lasts longer, stays cool, saves money (1 mark each).
- An LED is a diode (1). Current flows only in one direction through it (1). If it is connected wrongly, no current flows and it will not light (1).
- Any three: take to e-waste collection points, give to repairers or recyclers, return to sellers, reuse parts (1 mark each). Danger: burning gives off poisonous fumes (1).
