- Present the job of three people in your family or neighbourhood in six French sentences. Say what each person does and where he or she works. (6 marks)
- Complete with au, à la, à l’, aux or chez: (a) Le docteur travaille ___ hôpital. (b) Le boucher travaille ___ boucherie. (c) Le juge travaille ___ tribunal. (d) Les fermiers travaillent ___ champs. (e) Je travaille ___ mon oncle. (f) La marchande travaille ___ marché. (6 marks)
- Write a telephone dialogue of six lines in which you call a friend’s house and ask to speak to his or her mother, who is not at home, and you leave a message. (5 marks)
- Write the feminine form of: un directeur, un infirmier, un vendeur, un avocat, un tisserand. Then write a sentence about your dream job with parce que. (5 marks)
- Write a short text message of three sentences to tell a classmate that you cannot come to school tomorrow. (3 marks)
Essay Questions: Marking Guide for Teachers and Parents
- One mark for each correct sentence. Expect: Mon père est mécanicien. Il travaille au garage. Il répare les voitures. Ma mère est infirmière. Elle travaille à l’hôpital. Check that there is no article after être and that the verbs agree.
- (a) à l’ (b) à la (c) au (d) aux (e) chez (f) au (1 mark each).
- Six correct lines in a natural dialogue. Expect: Allô, bonjour. Je voudrais parler à ta maman, s’il te plaît. Je suis désolé(e), elle n’est pas là. Tu veux laisser un message ? Oui, dis-lui que j’ai appelé. Merci, au revoir. (5 marks: 4 for lines, 1 for politeness and correct use of tu or vous).
- une directrice, une infirmière, une vendeuse, une avocate, une tisserande (0.5 mark each, 2.5 total). Dream job sentence with parce que: Je veux être pilote parce que j’aime voyager (2.5 marks: 1 for the structure je veux être, 1 for parce que and 0.5 for correct spelling).
- Three correct sentences with greeting, message and thanks. Expect: Salut Ama. Je ne peux pas venir à l’école demain parce que je suis malade. Peux-tu me donner les devoirs ? Merci ! (1 mark each).
