Essay Questions
- Write a French wish for each occasion: a birthday, Christmas, the New Year, Easter and the holidays. (5 marks)
- Write four sentences about your dreams, using je rêve de, je voudrais, j’aimerais and j’espère. (4 marks)
- Put the verbs in the conditional: (a) Je (vouloir) un vélo. (b) Nous (aimer) voyager. (c) Tu (aimer) venir ? (3 marks)
- Write a short birthday card of five lines to a friend. (5 marks)
- Write three sentences saying what you wish for your school or for Ghana. (3 marks)
Essay Questions: Marking Guide for Teachers and Parents
- Bon anniversaire ! Joyeux Noël ! Bonne année ! Joyeuses Pâques ! Bonnes vacances ! One mark each. Watch the agreement: Pâques is plural, so joyeuses.
- One mark for each correct sentence. Expect: Je rêve de devenir médecin. Je voudrais visiter Paris. J’aimerais parler très bien français. J’espère réussir mon examen. After rêver we use de and an infinitive.
- (a) voudrais (b) aimerions (c) aimerais. One mark each.
- One mark per line. Expect: Cher Kofi, Bon anniversaire ! Je te souhaite une belle journée. Je voudrais être avec toi pour la fête. À bientôt ! Award marks for a greeting, a wish and a closing.
- One mark for each correct sentence. Expect: Je souhaite que mon école soit propre. Je voudrais plus de livres. Je rêve d’un Ghana en paix. Accept correct simple sentences with je voudrais or j’aimerais.
